About Us

Stone & Gravel Calculator is a free set of material calculators for homeowners, landscapers and contractors. We built it because every supplier’s website has a slightly different calculator, most of them use one generic density for every material, and almost none of them tell you how much extra to order for compaction.

What we do

Each calculator on this site turns a few measurements – length, width, depth – into the quantities you actually order: cubic yards, tons, cubic metres, tonnes, bags and cost. Behind each one is a small table of real bulk densities, one for every material, plus a waste or compaction allowance that reflects how that material behaves on site. Our UK weight converters do the same job for body weight in stone, pounds and kilograms.

How we keep it accurate

  • Every density we use is published on our Methodology & Densities page, with the unit conversions written out, so you can check our maths.
  • Densities are typical loose bulk values compiled from aggregate supplier specifications and standard engineering references. Where sources disagree we use a mid-range figure and say so.
  • Every calculator lets you override the density with your own supplier’s figure, because local stone varies.
  • We test each calculator against hand-worked examples (you will find them on every page) before it goes live.

What we don’t do

We do not sell materials, take commissions from suppliers or rank products. Price ranges quoted on the site are broad national guides for planning only – your local quote is always the number that matters. The site is supported by advertising, which never affects the calculations or the content.
